How we do it
Most of the gardens we build start at a kitchen table with a tape measure. The design is where the money is saved: getting the levels right, putting the patio where the evening sun actually falls, and choosing plants that suit the soil you have rather than the soil you wish you had.
We start with a measured survey. That means levels across the whole plot, the position of drains and services, a soil test from three spots, and a note of where the sun is at nine in the morning and six at night. From that we draw a scaled layout plan, then a planting plan with every plant named, sized and counted.
For gardens over 150 m² we add a simple 3D sketch, because most people find it easier to judge a terrace height or a path width when they can see it. You get two rounds of changes in the fee. When the plan is settled we price it, element by element, so you can see exactly what the sandstone, the turf and the planting cost and choose where to spend.
Garden design: common questions
Do I have to use you for the build?
No. The drawings and the planting plan are yours. If we build it, the design fee comes off the build price.
How long does a design take?
Two to three weeks from the survey to the first plan, then a week for each round of changes.
